Heera Sarki, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of the Far West Province Government, has expressed his commitment to advance the Mass Media Bill in the upcoming Provincial Assembly meeting.

He said this while speaking at the inaugural program of the two-day state-level training in Dadeldhura, which started today, to enhance the capacity of journalists working in FM radio. Speaking at the

program, Minister Sarki mentioned that legal infrastructure is necessary to make the journalism sector, which acts as a bridge between the government and the people, more effective. 'Journalists are the fourth part of the state,' Minister Sarki said, 'It is necessary for you to give critical suggestions to the government from time to time, with such suggestions, the government will become aware and accountable.'

He recalled that he himself had passed the mass media policy after three to four months of hard work and informed that now the mass media bill will also be forwarded with priority. Minister Saraki said that the bill is necessary to protect the rights and interests of journalists and it is time that journalists themselves should organize and be aware of their rights.

It is also the duty of journalists to convey the actions taken by the government to the people, said Minister Sarki. In the

program, Bharat Shah, president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists' Sudurpaschim Province Committee, pointed out the need for the state's sense of responsibility for the rights of journalists. He said that the government should give public welfare advertisements and necessary subsidies to the media.
