Upadhyaya is unanimously elected as the president of UML Achham

Shiv Prasad Upadhyay has been elected unopposed as the chairman of the Ninth District Convention of CPN-UML. The session started on Baisakh 13 and lasted for four days.

The closed session, which started on 14th, elected all office bearers and district committee members, including Upadhyay as the president, unopposed by the presidium consisting of district in-charge and central member Jhapta Bohra, central member Yagya Bogti, Kamal Timilsina, president of the party's far western province committee Krishna Prasad Jaisi and Pashupati Kunwar.

For the district committee president, along with Upadhyay, incumbent president Chandra Bohra and Bam BC were aspiring till the end. Bohras and BCs were harassing the election committee and leaders to decide through elections. But after the board of directors took the stand of not going to the election and ending it by consensus, they were all elected unanimously.

District Vice President Tilak Kunwar, Secretary Hirand Bhattarai, Deputy Secretary Top Bahadur Shahi and Gaumati Shahi were unanimously elected. 85 district committee members and seven accounting committee officials have also been unanimously elected.

After the breakup of the CPN, the UML was divided into three parts and as a result, the former UML Vice President Bhim Rawal's home district of Achham was forced to elect a unanimous leadership. Since Rawal and UML president KP Sharma Oli's conflict has been going on for a long time, the convention of Achham was affected for about one and a half years.

The effect of Matrubhoomi Jagran Abhiyan announced by CPN United Samajwadi and Rawal, which separated from UML, has been most affected in Constituency No. 1 of Achham. UML's former district president and MP Sher Bahadur Kunwar, former mayor of Sanfebagar municipality Kul Bahadur Kunwar, current deputy mayor Shiloj Kunwar and other UML leaders went to CPN-S.

In the Matrubhumi Awakening Campaign announced by Rawal recently, influential UML leader Prakash Shah, former state MP Bal Bahadur Sodari, Sudurpaschim Province Committee member Dudhakala Bista, Balgiri Kuwar of UML and hundreds of other leaders have now joined Rawal's Matrubhumi Awakening Campaign.

UML, which won in two constituencies of Achham in 2074 state and representative assembly elections, was defeated in both constituencies in 2079 elections. The leaders say that even in order to save the fallen branch, UML has to be unanimous to show that it is a single unit. Even though Rawal's name was singlely recommended from the district for the candidate for the member of the House of Representatives from Region No. 1, the UML could not be united in the district for a long time after UML President KP Sharma Oli nominated someone close to him as a candidate. The new leadership is also a challenge to strengthen UML Achham, which is divided into three parts.

Out of the ten local levels of Achham, UML is leading only in Mangalsen Municipality and Turmakhad Rural Municipality. In the local level elections in 2079, he won only the vice president in Bannagarhi Jaigarh rural municipality and the vice president in Kamalbazar municipality.
