How many pesticides are being used in the vegetables and fruits we eat daily? Many people don't even think about it. But in recent times, the use of pesticides has started to be excessive for faster and better production.

On Tuesday, the amount of pesticides in green vegetables was found to be high during testing at the vegetable market in Mahendranagar. The test was done in coordination with Agricultural Knowledge Center Kanchanpur with the help of Pesticide Residue Rapid Analysis Laboratory Unit located at Attaria in Kailali. Pesticides that cannot be consumed have been found in cucumber sample tests.

"When samples were collected and tested, cucumbers were already sold, now they will be held immediately," said Govind Sijapati, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Kanchanpur, "It was found that more pesticides were used than can be consumed." But in the two cucumber samples tested on Tuesday, 53 and 54 percent of pesticides were found respectively. For the

test, along with cucumber, 18 vegetable samples were collected, including cauliflower, banta, okra, gourd, bitter gourd, watermelon, rye, beans, chillies and potatoes. In others, 1 to 22 percent of pesticides have been found. "Nowadays, most of the vegetables and fruits available in the market are found to be using pesticides," said Sijapati, the head of the knowledge center, "for that, they should not be taken from the market and consumed directly, they should be immersed in water for a few days."

Fruits and vegetables with less than 35 percent pesticides are considered edible. 35 to 45 percent can be consumed only by keeping it for a few days . But if more than 45 percent of pesticides are found, they have to be destroyed . But in the vegetable market, up to 54 percent of the pesticides have been found in cucumbers, which have been sold in a frenzy.

In Kanchanpur, along with bagarkheti, a large amount of basante vegetables are being produced in other areas. Cucumbers, gourds, parsley, bitter gourds, watermelons etc. are produced in large quantities here. Along with Mahendranagar, the products are also exported to Dhangadhi and Pahari districts.
