The severe hailstorm that hit on Saturday evening has caused huge damage to crops across Bajhang district. Farmers who are in the process of bringing in winter crops are worried about food shortage after the hail damaged their crops.
The hailstorm that lasted for almost an hour has caused the biggest damage to wheat, barley and lentils that are about to ripen. Similarly, farmers of different municipalities have said that dry fruits like mango, walnut, apple have also been damaged by hail.
'The crops were all mixed in the soil . Faucets and faucets are also broken and unusable. There are no leaves left on other green trees," said Lokendra Kathayat of Badegaon, Mashta rural municipality, "At least 11 quintals of wheat and barley grew in my field. It doesn't seem like even a quintal is left now. The same has happened to others.' He said that he is worried about how to support his family of 12 now.
'I have never seen such hail before. There is nothing left of ripe winter crops, vegetables, fruits,' said Bhakta Kathayat, an employee of Mashta Rural Municipality, 'now the farmers are in mourning because of the fear of starvation.' Arjun Khadka, the information officer of Krishi Gyan Kendra Bajhang, said that severe asinapani has caused heavy damage to Balinali in various places of Mashta, Diyanot, Thalara, Vitthadchir, Khaptadchanna, Surma, Durgathali Chbispathivera, Kedarsyun, Saipal Rural Municipality and Jayaprithvi and Bungal Municipalities. He said that dozens of plastic houses built for the cultivation of seasonal vegetables in the district have also been damaged. 
'Barley and wheat crops have been damaged up to 70 percent . In some places, there is not even a grain left in the hair,' said Khadka, 'We will know how much damage has been done after the details come. But it is certain that it will affect the food security of the district throughout the year.' He informed that the farmers of different municipalities who have destroyed their crops due to hail have started coming to the knowledge center demanding compensation.
