Arrested for rape

Achham police have arrested 51-year-old Chetman Rokaya of Ramaroshan Rural Municipality 5 on the charge of raping a 21-year-old blind woman.

Achham police chief DSP Ishwari Prasad Bhandari informed that the woman was 28 weeks pregnant during the health examination.  "We have arrested the blind woman as soon as the complaint of forced rape was received," he said, "It was revealed that the woman was 28 weeks pregnant. The rest is being investigated.'

Rokaya, who was arrested, is disabled in his right leg and the woman is blind, so Rokaya may have raped her by showing fear while going to various events for the disabled.

According to the Safe Maternal and Reproductive Health Rights Act, 2075, there is a legal provision that abortion can be performed within 28 weeks with the consent of a pregnant woman who has undergone coercive or artificial insemination. But since there is no facility to perform abortion up to 28 weeks in District Hospital Achham, the situation has to be referred to hospitals in Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi for abortion, said Dr. Atul Bhardhaj of District Hospital Achham.
