A leopard caught in a trap in Airpali in Darchula has died. On Friday afternoon, the leopard was caught in a trap set by the locals. Division Forest Office Darchula said that the leopard died during the rescue.
A leopard was caught in a trap set by locals for wild boars in the community forest of Airpali in Lekam rural municipality-3. Rajesh Parki, Information Officer of the Division Forest Office, said that the rescue operations started from Saturday night.
Division Forest Office, Mahakali Shav Division Forest Office, Nepal Police, Armed Police and locals tried to rescue.
The team from Shullaphanta of Kanchanpur also reached the area on Saturday night for leopard rescue. But the forest office said that the leopard could not be rescued alive. "The leopard, which was caught in a trap and was seriously injured, died in the trap," said an employee of the forest office. He said that the search for the person who set the trap in that area is underway.
This 8-year-old female leopard has been buried in the premises of the local police office, Lali.
Information officer Parki said that due to the lack of skilled manpower and necessary equipment for wildlife rescue in the district, the leopard could not be rescued on time.
