A leopard caught in a trap set for wild boar control in Baitadi has been rescued. The division forest office informed that a cheetah caught in a trap near the Tripurasundari temple in Dasarathchand Municipality-8 was rescued on Monday.
According to the Division Forest Office, the leopard was jointly rescued by a team from National Nature Conservation Fund Shuklaphanta, Kanchanpur, a veterinary doctor from Dadeldhura and Naresh Karna, a forest officer from the Division Forest Office.
After the rescue, now the leopard is kept in the Division Forest Office Baitadi, said Bharat Prasad Bhatta, Head of the Division Forest Office Baitadi. He said that the leopard is about 5 to 6 months old and it is planned to be released in the Gwallek area of the district after it is completely healthy.
In Baitadi, leopards are getting caught in traps set to control wild animals including wild boars. As such incidents are causing serious problems for the protection of wild animals, the forest office has been asking the local people to adopt safe and alternative methods for the prevention of wild animals.
