Itahari Super Kings have secured a place in the finals by defeating Chinnamasta Lions by 2 wickets in the first qualifier of the KPL Cup International Invitational Cricket Tournament.
In a very competitive match held at the Dr. Khalil Azad Cricket Ground in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality on Saturday, Itahari achieved the target in the last over and took a strong step towards the title race.
After winning the toss, Chinnamasta Lions, who batted first, scored 151 runs after losing all their wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Abhishek Karki scored 48 runs for Chinnamasta. He faced 25 balls but could not lead the team to victory despite hitting 5 sixes and 2 fours. Adil Alam scored 36 runs, while Santosh Karki scored 14, Avinash Karna 13, Dipesh Kandel 11 and Bishal Susling scored 10 runs. Deepak Dumre and Sujan Thapaliya took 3 wickets each. Chasing a target of 152 runs in reply, Itahari reached the target in 19.2 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Sujan Thapaliya contributed an excellent 41 runs in Itahari's victory. He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in 23 balls to lead the team's innings. Akash Saraf scored 30 runs, while Arjun Gharti contributed 18 and Shubh Kansakar contributed 12 runs. In the final innings, Bhupal Luitel scored an unbeaten 24 runs to give the team a thrilling victory. He hit 3 sixes in 14 balls and finished brilliantly under pressure.
On the bowling front, Prem Kamat of Chinnamasta took 4 important wickets but could not stop Itahari from winning. With this victory, Itahari Super Kings have directly entered the final. The defeated Chinnamasta Lions will get another chance to reach the final by playing the second qualifier against the winner of the eliminator match. The competition is currently going on between two Indian teams, RML Sports Academy and KCC, in the eliminator match.
