France defeated Senegal 3-1 in the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday night, the day Kylian Mbappe set a goal record.

The first half was very disappointing. Neither team was able to build a strong attack. But the second half was a rain of goals. In the 66th minute, French forward Mbappe broke the goal drought. He scored a record goal for France after a pass from Michael Oliseh. France took a 2-0 lead after Bradley Barkola scored in the second minute of his entry into the field. He entered the field as a substitute in the 80th minute to replace Ousmane Dembele. Mbappe scored his second goal in injury time, moments after Senegal's Ibrahim Mbaye scored, giving France a 3-1 lead. With his 2 goals in the match against Senegal, Mbappe has reached his 58th goal for France. He surpassed Olivier Giroud's record of 57 goals for France.

With today's two goals, 27-year-old Mbappe has now scored 14 goals in World Cup history.  Mbappe is only two goals behind Germany's Miroslav Klose, who has scored 16 goals in the World Cup.
