Japan held the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw in their Group F match at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, USA, on Monday. The first half was goalless despite the Netherlands dominating possession. Virgil van Dijk gave the Netherlands the lead in the 51st minute. Ryan Gravenberk's long cross was headed into the corner of the post. Japan equalised six minutes later. Keito Nakamura equalised for Japan in the 57th minute. Cristian Sommerville scored in the 64th minute to give the Netherlands the lead again. This time too, Gravenberk assisted for the Netherlands.

But Japan equalized the game 2-2 in the 89th minute with a goal from Daichi Kamada. The Netherlands have played in the World Cup final three times, in 1974, 1978 and 2010, but have never won, while Japan played in the World Cup for the first time in 1998, and the team has played in every World Cup since then.
