Nepal defeated Malaysia by 167 runs in the Asian Games Men's Cricket Qualifiers on Thursday after Kushal Bhurtel scored his second consecutive century. Nepal became the winner of Group 'A' by winning its second consecutive match in the ongoing tournament in Singapore.
Nepal, who lost the toss and elected to bat after Kushal scored 126 runs, scored 275 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Malaysia could only score 108 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
Nepal defeated China by 221 runs in the first match of the tournament being held in Singapore on Sunday. Kushal scored 129 runs in that match. Kushal continued his good form and played another century innings against Malaysia.
Kushal is the tenth batsman in the world to score a century in two consecutive matches in Twenty20 Internationals. India's Sanju Samson, England's Phil Salt, and South Africa's Riley Rossouw are among the players who have scored two consecutive centuries in Twenty20 Internationals.
During his innings, Kushal became the highest run-scorer from Nepal in Twenty20 Internationals. Kushal has scored 2,240 runs in 78 matches. He has surpassed Dipendra Singh Airee, who scored 2,211 runs in 98 matches. Nepal's current Twenty20 captain Dipendra was dismissed for 31 runs off 11 balls against Malaysia.
Kushal also became the first Nepali player to score three centuries in Twenty20 Internationals. Apart from the previous match against China, Kushal scored an unbeaten 104 runs against the Philippines in the 2022 Global World Cup Qualifiers. Four other batsmen from Nepal have scored centuries on 1-1 occasions in Twenty20 Internationals.
Kushal and Asif Sheikh had given Nepal an aggressive start by putting on 134 runs in 9 overs. Asif scored 68 runs in 24 balls, hitting 5 fours and 7 sixes. Sandeep Jora was out for 15 runs in 14 balls, hitting 2 sixes. Dipendra was out for 14 balls, hitting 1 four and 4 sixes.
