The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has asked FIFA's ethics committee to investigate the Peace Prize awarded to US President Donald Trump by world football's top body (FIFA).
FIFA President Gianni Infantino first presented the Peace Prize to Trump during the World Cup draw on December 6. Shortly after, human rights group Fair Square filed a complaint with FIFA's ethics committee, claiming that President Infantino violated his official duties by helping Trump.
FIFA has not disclosed the basis on which Trump was awarded the Peace Prize. FIFA awarded Trump the Peace Prize at a time when the Trump administration was repeatedly pressuring Trump to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
NFF president Liz Klavenes said Norway was the only country to file a complaint with the FIFA ethics committee. "I think other football associations can agree to this if they want to." "We have concluded that it is not appropriate to pressure anyone, it will only create a different atmosphere," he said.
The United States is co-hosting the FIFA World Cup with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. FIFA President Infantino has openly requested Trump to make it a success.
