Sunsari has become the champion in the 16th President's Running Shield competition in Koshi Province. On the last day of the competition that began in Itahari on Sunday, Sunsari became the champion with 21 gold medals. Jhapa came second with 18 gold medals, while Morang came third with 16 gold medals.

The competition was organized by the Koshi Province Sports Development Board. Koshi Province Sports Development Board Member-Secretary Biplav Ghosh informed that 1,700 players from Koshi Province who were selected from all 14 districts participated in the competition.

Chief Minister Hikmat Karki bid farewell to the players selected from the competition held in 6 disciplines including athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo and wushu on Monday. Bidding farewell to the players and officials selected from Koshi Province for the national competition to be held in Kathmandu from Wednesday, Chief Minister Karki said that Koshi Province is confident of winning as many medals as possible by performing excellently.

The 16th Central President's Running Shield Sports Competition organized by the National Sports Council (NSC) is starting in Kathmandu from Wednesday. A total of 686 players, including 98 players from all seven provinces, will participate in the three-day competition. The competition includes 6 sports, namely athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, karate, taekwondo and wushu. A total of 66 gold medals will be competed for in these sports.

There will be a competition for 26 gold medals in athletics, while volleyball and kabaddi will be played for 2 gold medals each. Players will compete for 12 gold medals each in karate, taekwondo and wushu. Athletics will be held at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor, volleyball at the NSC Covered Hall, and kabaddi at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lainchaur.

Karate will be held at the Covered Hall in Kirtipur, taekwondo at the Nepal Taekwondo Academy in Satdobato, and wushu at the NSC Semi-Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, informed NSC Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta.
