Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca reached the quarterfinals of the French Open 2026 on Sunday, defeating Kaspar Ruud in four sets. This is the first time he has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, having previously beaten Novak Djokovic.

Fonseca won the match at Roland Garros 7-5, 7-6, 5-7 and 6-2. He will now face Czech player Jakub Menšić. He also defeated Andrey Rublev to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tennis for the first time.

The 20-year-old Menšić won the thrilling five-set match 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 2-6 and 6-3. On the women's side, former champion Iga Swatik was defeated by Marta Kosyuk of Ukraine 7-5 and 6-1.
