APF's Nischal Thapa and Nepal Army's Suramya Shakya won gold on the first day of the 42nd National Table Tennis Championship on Thursday. Nischal won gold in the boys' singles and Suramya won gold in the girls' singles under Cadet U-15.

In the boys' final held at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lainchaur, Nischal defeated Gandaki Province's Sugam Poudel in sets of 11-7, 6-11, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-9. Lumbini Province's Subin Chhetri and Koshi's Gautam Tamang came third.

In the girls' final of the tournament being organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association, Suramya defeated Nepal Police's Prajna Maharjan in straight sets of 12-10, 11-9 and 11-9. Bagmati Province's Kavya Shakya and APF's Urabi Suwal came third.

The competition includes 11 events, 7 in senior and 2 each in junior and cadet. 116 players from 10 teams, representing all seven provinces and three departmental teams, are participating in the competition. The competition will conclude on Sunday.
