Biplav Ghosh of Sunsari has been appointed as the member-secretary of the Koshi Province Sports Development Board, which has been leaderless for eight months. Social Development Minister Ram Prasad Mahato on Wednesday appointed Ghosh as the member-secretary of the board. Along with Ghosh, the vice-chairman and members of the board have also been appointed. Santoshi Shrestha and Basanta Raj Aryal of Biratnagar have been appointed as vice-chairmen. Ghosh is the central secretary of the Nepal Sports Federation, while Aryal is the former joint-general secretary of the All Nepal Football Association. The members include Tikaram Puri of Ilam, Durga Prasad Kathet of Udayapur, Bishwaraj Rai of Okhaldhunga, Bina Basnet and Balajit Rai of Jhapa, Sushila Rai and Ishwor Bikram Shah of Sunsari, and Keshav Bhattarai of Tehrathum. They were sworn in by Minister Mahato at midnight on Wednesday.

It is expected that the suspended sports activities of the province will move forward once the board is complete. Earlier, the board was left without a leader for eight months after the term of the board's member-secretary Krishna Basnet ended on Bhadra 25. Sports activities across the province were affected due to the failure to appoint a member-secretary.

Due to political division and party interests, the board was left without a leader, from regular administrative work to the operation of district and province-level competitions. Although the local levels have selected players for the 'President's Running Shield' from the school level, the district-level selection process could not move forward due to lack of leadership in the board. It is expected that the suspended competitions and overall sports activities will resume with the arrival of new leadership.
