Para-taekwondo player Palesha Govardhan has won a bronze medal at the 11th Asian Para-Taekwondo Championship.

Palesha won the medal in the women's under 57 kg weight category under the K-44 category of the competition held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Palesha, who received a bye in the first round, directly reached the semifinals. Palesha was limited to bronze after losing to Iran's Zahra Rahimi in the semifinals, team coach Kaviraj Negi Lama said.

Under the K-44 category, men's under 63 kg Amir Bloun and women's under 47 kg Renu Tamang were defeated in the first round. Both were defeated by the Iranian.

Now Amir and Renu will play in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Taekwondo qualifying tournament starting Tuesday in Ulaanbaatar. The winner and runner-up will be selected for the Asian Para Taekwondo.

Palesha will not participate in the qualifying tournament. She has been selected for the Asian Games based on her world ranking.
