A national boxing competition is to be held in Hetauda. The District Boxing Association Makawanpur is organizing the All Nepal Open Boxing Competition for Youth-19 and Youth-22 age groups from Jestha 13 to 16 at the Covered Hall at Parijatpath in Hetauda-4.
It is estimated that about 200 players from 28 different clubs will participate in the competition, which will be organized with the support of about 2.45 million rupees from the Provincial Sports Development Council. According to Association Makawanpur President Sushil Ghimire, the cost of the competition is estimated at about 3 million rupees. Players will compete in 14 weight groups, including 7 for Youth-19 and 7 for Youth-22. One weight group has been determined for two age groups for women.
Information about the competition was given at a press conference held in Hetauda on Thursday. The first and second place winners in each weight group of the competition will receive 10,000 and 5,000 rupees respectively, and those who reach the semi-finals will receive 3,000 rupees each. The best player, coach and club of the tournament will be awarded Rs 10,000 each.
According to the association's Makawanpur coach Lal Bahadur Poudel, one player will be honored as 'Boxer of the Day' every day.
'This tournament is organized to produce players. This tournament will show the condition of junior players across the country,' Poudel said. According to him, departmental teams will not participate in the tournament.
According to the association's vice-chairman Ujjwal Bhandari, two teams from Makawanpur will participate in the tournament. Bhandari informed that the insufficient amount for the tournament will be raised with the help of various local donors.
