Scotland defeated Nepal by 2 runs in the Cricket World Cup League-2 on Tuesday, beating Gulshan Jha. This is the first time Scotland has defeated Nepal in Kirtipur.
Scotland, who won the toss and elected to bat, scored 243 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. Rain interrupted the game as the Nepali innings began. After the rain stopped, Nepal was given a new target of 221 runs in 39 overs based on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Even though Gulshan scored an unbeaten 61 runs in 35 balls, Nepal could only score 218 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Nepal needed 13 runs to win in the last over. But Nepal could only score 10 runs. Gulshan hit a six on the last ball of the match.
Gulshan hit a total of 2 fours and 5 sixes. Along with him, Nandan Yadav remained unbeaten on 8 runs off 10 balls. From Nepal, Binod Bhandari was out for 10, Arjun Kumal for zero, and Asif Sheikh for 21 runs.
Vice-captain Deependra Singh Airi and captain Rohit Poudel shared a 76-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Rohit was out for 32 runs. He hit 2 fours off 46 balls. Deependra played another impressive innings and scored 55 runs off 49 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Then Arif Sheikh was out for 3 and Karan KC for 18 runs.
Brad Curry was named Player of the Match for Scotland by taking 3 wickets. He had conceded 43 runs in 8 overs. Mark Watt took 2 wickets for 37 runs in 8 overs, while Oliver Davidson and Jack Jarvis took 1 wicket each.
With this win, Scotland has equalled 36 points with the top-ranked USA. But Scotland is in second place in terms of run difference. The USA has played only 24 matches compared to Scotland's 29 matches. Nepal remains in seventh place with 18 points in 25 matches.
Earlier, George Munshi and Finlay McCreath gave Scotland a great start by adding 100 runs for the first wicket, but Nepal made a comeback with a brilliant spell by Sandeep Lamichhane.
When Munshi was dismissed as the first wicket in the 21st over, Scotland was on 114 runs. Nepal returned to the game from here. Munshi was dismissed by Sandeep's top edge. In the same over, Sandeep dismissed McCreath LBW. Mansi scored 75 off 62 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes, while McCreath scored 35 off 62 balls with 3 fours.
In his next two overs, Sandeep bowled Brendan McMullen for 7 and dismissed captain Richie Barrington LBW for 5, as Scotland reached 128-4 in 25 overs. Michael Inglis and Matthew Cross then played under full pressure. Cross was out for 18 off 38 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes, respectively, in 18 balls. Both were dismissed by Karan KC.
