The annual general meeting of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), which has been criticized for lack of financial discipline, has approved the income and expenditure details of the first and second editions of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The general meeting held in Biratnagar on Sunday passed six different decisions and decided to provide Rs 200,000 each to 45 district cricket associations across the country from the income received from the NPL. The general meeting also decided to approve the annual audit report of the association for the fiscal year 2081/82.
The general meeting also approved the annual audit report of the fiscal year 2081/082 and passed CAN's annual program, work plan and budget for 2026. The general meeting has authorized the central working committee to adjust the budget and programs accordingly if additional programs are received from the ACC/ICC.
It has been decided to provide a 'Score Card Grant' based on the programs run by the district cricket associations, and it has also been decided to announce 'Can Annual Awards' every December from this year. Under the awards, the best male, female, young player, lifetime achievement and 'Moment of the Year' awards will be given, informed spokesperson Chhumbi Lama.
Although the general meeting, which began in coordination with the Provincial Cricket Association Koshi, was said to last for two days on Sunday and Monday, it was announced that it would be concluded on Sunday, informed the participating Sunsari District Cricket Association President CP Poudel. Speaking at the general meeting inaugurated by Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki, National Sports Council (NSC) Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta has urged the Nepal Cricket Association to move forward in a transparent manner by following the law. He mentioned that there is a tendency in Nepal to consider those who break the law as powerful. He said, 'We should all be oriented towards following the law.' In our Nepal, whoever breaks the law is considered strong. However, whoever follows the law at the international level is considered strong. Therefore, all activities should be transparent.'
Mehta said that no association is just one person and said that if the leadership is strong, the organization will also be strong. He said that since cricket is making significant progress in Nepal, the association should not get involved in disputes. He expressed happiness that CAN organized the general meeting even though it was late. At the program, CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand said that the general meeting was delayed due to the country's situation. Stating that the ACC and the National Cricket Council have been informed about this matter, he claimed that CAN has been doing a glorious job for Nepali cricket.
He said that this time it was held in Biratnagar as per the decision to hold general meetings in all seven provinces as per the plan to decentralize cricket. CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said that the annual general meeting was slightly delayed due to technical and practical reasons. Earlier, CAN had held a general meeting in Asoj 2081.
