The 13th edition of the prestigious Rara Running Gold Cup football tournament in Dhankuta district is scheduled to be held from Baisakh 18 to 22.
The organizer Rara Football Club informed that all preparations for the tournament have been completed through a press conference organized in Rajarani.
Eight teams including the organizer will participate in the tournament to be held at the playground of Punya Secondary School Rajarani. The participating teams are Rara Football Club Rajarani, Sahales Football Club Sarlahi, Birtamod United Football Club Jhapa, RIFC Kathmandu, Kerabari Football Club Morang, Dharan Football Club Sunsari, Gaighat Football Club Udayapur and Danda Bazar Football Club Dhankuta.
The winner of the tournament, which is known as the highest prize money in the district, will receive Rs 700,000 and the runner-up will receive Rs 300,000. In addition, the best player will be awarded Rs 25,000, the best goalkeeper, emerging player and highest scorer will be awarded Rs 10,000 each. The organizer has stated that the player declared 'Man of the Match' in each match will be given Rs 7,000.
Chaubise Rural Municipality has provided financial assistance of Rs. 1.4 million for the competition. Tanka Maya Pangami Magar, Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, said that the assistance was provided with the aim of guiding the youth in a positive direction through sports.
Jeevan Katuwal, Secretary of the organizing club, informed that the estimated cost of the competition is Rs. 3.632 million and the expenses will be spent on prizes, team management, certificates, parapet construction, sports equipment, water, snacks, accommodation, communication and publicity, hospitality, etc.
Mani Chemjong, President of the Dhankuta District Football Association, expressed his belief that the competition will contribute to the development and promotion of football in the district and said that it will help establish the Rajarani region as a sports tourism destination.
The organizers have paid special attention to security, health services and audience management to make this year's edition more organized and attractive. Arrangements will be made for health workers including first aid throughout the game, while drinking water and accommodation arrangements have been improved for the comfort of the spectators.
The tournament is expected to boost hotels, transportation, and local businesses in the Rajarani region. Organizers say that this will not only boost the local economy, but also contribute significantly to the promotion of sports tourism.
