Red cards for 23 players

Twelve Cruzeiro players and 11 Atletico players were shown red cards. This is not the highest number of red cards in a match. In February 2011, all 36 players involved in a match between Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in the fifth division of Argentine football were shown red cards.

23 players have been given red cards following a major brawl in the Mineiro Championship football final between Brazilian clubs Cruzeiro and Atletico MG.

The BBC reported on Monday that former Brazilian coach Tite's Cruzeiro, led by Caio Jorge, beat rivals Atletico 1-0 to win the Minas Gerais state championship.

The team won the title for the first time since 2019. But the match was abandoned after violence erupted in the final seconds of the match. Security officers and military police had to intervene to control the fighting. Brazilian striker Hulk was among 23 players who were shown red cards.

The clash between the two teams began when Atletico goalkeeper Iverson pushed Cruzeiro midfielder Cristian to the ground. Iverson kneed Cristian in the chest. Cristian collided with Everson while chasing a loose ball.

The dispute escalated when Christian's teammates rushed in and tackled Iverson to the post. Referee Matheus Delgado Condancan did not show a red card during the match. According to Brazilian media Globo, the referee was unable to show a red card because the game was stopped due to a brawl. The referee later showed a red card.

Twelve Cruzeiro players and 11 Atletico players were shown red cards. This was not the most red carded match. In February 2011, all 36 players involved in a match between Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in Argentina's fifth division were given red cards.

'It was a moment of regret,' Hulk said of Sunday's final. 'We did not do something exemplary, which the world was watching. We are the ones who will shape our identity and the image of our institution.' Atletico and Cruzeiro are in 17th and 19th place, respectively, in Brazil's top division.
