Bishwa Adarsh College of Itahari has won the title of the Model Super Cup inter-college level Twenty20 cricket tournament. Bishwa Adarsh defeated Aastha College of Damak, Jhapa, by a wide margin of 76 runs in the final match held on Sunday.
Bishwa Adarsh, who won the toss and elected to bat first at the Janata Cricket Ground in Itahari, scored 116 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Akash Saraf scored 24 and Roshan Khatri scored 16 runs for them. Chhabilal Khadka of Aastha College took 3 and Saujan Ghimire took 2 wickets.
In reply, former national player Lakpa Lama's team Aastha College, chasing a winning target of 117 runs, was bundled out for 40 runs in 12.1 balls. The team was under pressure after Aastha captain Bhupal Dangal was dismissed for 6 runs. Dangal, who had taken the team to the final by scoring 79 runs in the quarterfinals and 64 runs in the semifinals, was caught out by Bhupal Luintel in the fifth over, and the game went in Bishwa Adarsh's favor.
Except for Aastha's Ashish Rana who scored 14 runs, no other batsman could score double figures. Rohan Shah of Bishwa Adarsh took 4 important wickets. He bowled 2 overs and conceded only 5 runs. Bhupal Luintel bowled 3 overs and took 3 wickets for conceding 7 runs.
Rohan Shah of Bishwa Adarsh was declared the 'Man of the Match Final'. The best player and best batter of the tournament was Bhupal Dangal of Aastha. He scored 150 runs and took 3 wickets throughout the tournament. Bhupal Luintel, captain of Bishwa Adarsh, was declared the best bowler. He took a total of 11 wickets throughout the tournament. The winning team Bishwa Adarsh received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and the runner-up Aastha College received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with a trophy.
Koshi Provincial Cricket Association President Sarbajit Raj Pandey, CAN Sunsari President CP Poudel, Hisan Koshi Province Acting President Ganesh Dulal, Central Member Keshav Khadka and others distributed prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Teams from 8 colleges of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari participated in the tournament. Program coordinator Muktiraj Subedi said that the competition, which was launched with the aim of professional development of cricket in the Koshi region, identification of young talent, and providing fair opportunities to college-level players, will be continued next year as well.
