Zimbabwe continued their excellent form in the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets on Thursday. 

After winning the match in Colombo, Zimbabwe also became the group winner and will now enter the Super Eight stage with confidence. While remaining unbeaten, Zimbabwe managed to collect 7 points. Co-host country Sri Lanka was limited to 6 points.

Zimbabwe needed 8 runs in the last over to win. Chasing 179 runs for victory, Zimbabwe scored 182 runs in 19.3 overs for the loss of just 4 wickets. Brian Bennett played a decisive role in that. He remained not out on 63 runs off 48 balls. He hit 8 fours from his bat. Captain Sikandar Raja also contributed significantly by scoring 45 runs off 26 balls. Similarly, Tadiwanse Marumani scored 34 and Ryan Burle scored 23 runs.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 145 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The biggest contribution in this was from Pathuma Nissanka. He scored 62 runs in just 41 balls.

He hit 8 fours as the opener. Then Pawan Rathnayake added 44 runs in 25 balls, which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Although Sri Lanka started aggressively, they could not maintain it until later.
