Jhapa 11 Football Club has entered the semi-finals of the 26th edition of the international invitational Budhasubba Gold Cup.
In the fourth and final quarterfinal match on Tuesday, the Jhapa team defeated Satdobato Youth Club Lalitpur by a 2-1 goal margin, setting the stage for the last four.
Rajesh Dahal and Aaron Thapa were the stars of Jhapa's victory at the Dharan Stadium. Rajesh scored in the 17th minute of the match to give the Jhapa team the lead. Satdobato increased the pressure on the Jhapa team, which had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half.
The game was tied in the 13th minute of the second half when foreign player Babiroz scored a goal. With one minute left in the competitive match, Aaron Thapa scored to ensure the victory of the Jhapa team.
Babiroz was sent off the field by referee Kabin Byanjankar in the three-minute injury time of the match after being shown a double yellow card. Aaron Thapa was declared the man of the match and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
With the last quarterfinal on Tuesday, the semifinal draw has also been completed. Jhapa 11 will now compete with Church Boys United in the second and final semifinal next Thursday.
Church Boys have already reached the last four by defeating the divisional team Nepal Police Club. Before that, the first semifinal on Wednesday will be between Laligurans Association Pokhara and Planning Boys United.
While Planning Boys entered the semifinals by defeating the previous winners New Road Team NRT, Laligurans defeated the host Dharan Football Club to make it to the last four. The final match will be held on Falgun 2. The winning team of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 million and the runner-up team will receive Rs. 5 million.
