This year's 'Chief of Army Staff Open Marathon Competition 2082' concluded today. The competition was inaugurated by Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel at a ceremony organized by the Nepal Army Physical Training and Sports Center at the Army Headquarters on Saturday.
The slogan for the competition this year was 'Strong Unity, Safe Nation'. The competition included a 42.195 km men's marathon and a 21 km half marathon for both men and women. The runners who secured the first, second and third places in the marathon will be awarded Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.
The first, second and third place winners in both the men and women categories in the half marathon will be awarded Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. A 10 km race was organized with the participation of military officers, military attachés, employees working in military colleges, retired and serving general ranks of the army and children of non-military personnel studying in grades 10 to 12.
Chief of Army Staff Sigdel, along with military and non-military personnel, participated in the five km walkathon. Students from classes 7 to 9 of the Military College completed the five-kilometer race.
The first, second, and third place winners in the 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races will be awarded 10,000, 7,000, and 5,000 rupees respectively.
This 11th edition of the competition, which has been organized every year on the occasion of Mahashivratri and Army Day since 2072 BS, saw the participation of about 2,500 runners in five different categories. This year, Mahashivratri and Army Day fall on Falgun 3.
