X Macau Boxing Group honored Chandra Bahadur Thapa with cash on Wednesday for winning a historic bronze medal at the IBA Men's World Boxing Championships.
On the same occasion, Lal Prasad Upreti, who had made it to the quarterfinals in the competition, was also honored with cash. Chandra won bronze in the men's 54 kg category in the competition held in Dubai from December 3 to 13. Chandra is the only Nepali boxer to win a medal at the World Boxing Championship. He defeated players from three countries to make it to the semifinals.
Chandra received a prize of Rs 30,000 and Lal Bahadur received Rs 20,000. The prize money was coordinated by Tej Bahadur Chand, coordinator of the X Macau Boxing Group, according to Pushkar Raj Pant, secretary of the Nepal Boxing Federation.
On the same occasion, the coaching trio, boxing's head coach Prakash Thapa Magar, Deepak Maharjan, and Sujit Pun, were honored with certificates of appreciation.
They were honored by National Sports Council member-secretary Ramcharitra Mehta, Nepal Boxing Federation president Ram Avale, general secretary Man Bahadur Bhandari, and others.
