The Armed Police Force (APF), Tribhuvan Army Club and Tiptop New Diamond Youth Sports Club have made a winning start to the 6th Ncell Tiger Cup National and International Invitational Club Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament, organized by Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal, began on Friday at the Pokhara Rangshala Volleyball Court. In the women's match, New Diamond defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 3-0 in straight sets. New Diamond got off to a comfortable start by winning the first set 25-13, the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-8. Salina Budha Magar of New Diamond, who performed well in the match, was declared the 'Player of the Match'.
In the men's match, Army managed to defeat Maldives Volleyball Association in straight sets. Army won the first set 25-15, the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-10. Army's Sunil Bohora became the 'Player of the Match' in the match.
In the final match on Friday, APF defeated the home team Gandaki Pradesh Volleyball Association 3-1. APF, which won the first set 26-24 and the second set 27-25, lost the third set. Gandaki won the third set 25-19, taking the game to the fourth set. However, APF got off to a happy start by winning the fourth set 25-21. APF's Upendra Pariyar was named 'Player of the Match' in that match.
Inauguration of the tournament Gandaki Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta said that sports are not only for health but also an important means of boosting the economy of the nation. He mentioned that the government has recognized volleyball as a national sport and said, 'The fact that volleyball can be played even in a geographically small place like Nepal and is accessible to everyone has also increased the popularity of volleyball.'
Ncell CEO Michael Foley said that he felt very proud and happy to be present at the inauguration of the volleyball game in a tourist city like Pokhara.
Nepal Volleyball Association General Secretary Roshan Shrestha said that the tournament organized by Tiger Group has made a significant contribution to the development of Nepali volleyball. Tiger Group President Narayan Prasad Sharma said that they have taken the initiative to introduce Pokhara to the world through volleyball by continuing this tournament even in the difficult circumstances of the country.
Three people honored
Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal honored three people who have made significant contributions to the development of volleyball at the opening ceremony. The honorees are former volleyball player and former member of Kaski District Volleyball Rajkumar Adhikari, New Diamond Youth Sports Club coach Kumar Rai, and national player Himal Sunari Magar. They were honored with a dosalla and a certificate of appreciation by Province Chief Bhatta, organization President Narayan Prasad Sharma, tournament coordinator Rajkumar Gurung, and others.
There will be 4 matches on Saturday under the tournament. The first match will start at 8:30 am between Nepal Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club for the women's side. The second match will be between APF and Thailand Queens for the women's side.
The first match for the men's team will be between Gandaki Province and Maldives Volleyball Association. The second match will be between Nepal Police Club and Parbat Volleyball Association.
6 teams for men and 5 teams for women have participated in the competition that will run until 17th Magh. The winners of both the women's and men's groups will receive the same prize. The winning team will receive 666,666 rupees, the runner-up will receive 366,666 rupees, and the third-place team will receive 266,666 rupees. The best player will receive 26,666 rupees and the best player in each discipline will receive 11,666 rupees each.
