Nepali national captain Rohit Poudel has expressed his regret over not receiving the announced award despite reaching the Twenty20 World Cup. Nepal had reached the World Cup for the third time by winning the Twenty20 World Cup qualifiers held in Oman in October.
According to the Nepal government's procedures, the players of the Nepali team that wins the World Cup qualifiers will receive 1.95 million each. But Rohit says that the players are feeling uncomfortable because they are not getting the prize money mentioned in the government's procedures.
'I think we should get what we are entitled to. Rather than doing this and that after our playing career, I think we should give what we deserve now. Then we will talk about retirement,' Rohit said.
He further said, 'Even after 4 months, we have not received the announced prize. It does not seem like any process has progressed. We are missing this aspect. If the prize announced before the World Cup comes, the morale of the players will increase. The players also need money, it would be good if the government looks into this.'
The government had provided 1.3 million each to each player of the Nepali team that reached the World Cup after finishing as runners-up in the 2023 World Cup qualifiers held in Nepal. This time, the Nepali team won the World Cup qualifiers title in Oman.
The Nepali team is leaving for Sri Lanka on Sunday to prepare for the Twenty20 World Cup.
