10th National Games: 'Stop misleading the public by setting dates'

What you should know

Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel has accused the federal government of not making adequate preparations for the 10th National Games.

In a meeting with the Chief Minister, Chief Minister Kandel had suggested to the team including Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta who had arrived in Surkhet to stop misleading the public by setting a date.

‘Stop setting a date to be popular, stopping other processes. Shouldn’t you set a date to be popular, stop other processes and start preparations as soon as you become a minister?’ The Chief Minister asked. Stating that the Karnali provincial government has always been ready to organize the 10th National Games, he said, ‘The federal government is repeatedly setting a date to be popular and misleading the public.’

Now, when the minister comes to Karnali province, Chief Minister Kandel said, ‘The election code of conduct will start from Falgun 5. The procurement process has not started yet, how can the 10th National Games be held on the specified date?’

The Sushila Karki-led government had decided to set a new date for the 10th National Games, which had been postponed several times, from Falgun 1 to 7. The main organizer of this competition is the National Sports Council under the federal government.

Minister for Youth and Sports Gupta, however, claimed that the competition would be held on time. He said that the federal government of the competition had ensured the budget and moved forward the tender process.

‘The competition will happen anyway. We have moved forward all the work to be done by the National Sports Council,’ he said, ‘The procurement act has prolonged the process.’ The Karnali provincial government’s failure to appoint a member-secretary has also hampered the selection of players and other work.

‘No matter how much we try, there is no work. The provincial government itself had to come together in coordination and cooperation,’ said Minister Gupta, ‘It will be easier to hold the competition if the Karnali provincial government plays a positive role. How can the Karnali provincial government step aside by saying that we are not the organizers, and how can the federal government alone make all the preparations?’

There is only a month left for the 10th National Games. The meeting, which was attended by the Chief Minister of Karnali Province and the Minister of Social Development, Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta and other players, was marred by an argument.
