IPL screenings banned in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's interim government on Monday decided to ban live broadcast of this year's Indian Premier League (IPL). The decision to ban live broadcast of the IPL comes amid rising tensions between Bangladesh and India.

The decision was made in response to the Kolkata Knight Riders removing Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman from the team on the orders of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Rahman had signed a contract with Kolkata for this season.

Defending its decision, Bangladesh's Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that there is no logic behind removing a player like Rahman from the team and it has hurt the sentiments of Bangladeshi cricket fans. Earlier, Bangladesh had refused to go to India for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup and had also requested to move its matches to Sri Lanka.

An emergency meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board earlier decided that its team would not go to India to play the World Cup.

The board said, "Keeping in mind the advice of the Bangladeshi government and the safety of the players and officials, our team will not go to India to play the World Cup." The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not yet said anything officially about Bangladesh's demand. This time, the IPL will start from March 26.
