Cricket coach Jagat Tamata has been appointed as a member of the National Sports Council (NSC). The Ministry of Youth and Sports has appointed Tamata, Shantakumar Mahata, Kumar Lama Ghising, Rajesh Khadka and Prayas Karki as members of the NSC.
Five new members have been appointed to fill the vacant posts after the term of six members, including NSC member secretary Tankalal Ghising, expired last month. Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta administered the oath of office to all members, including Tamata, at the Sports Ministry in Singha Durbar on Friday.
Tamata has been the coach of the Nepali national team. Under his coaching, Nepal received one-day international recognition for the first time in 2018. In addition, he has been the coach of the Nepali women's national team and the Nepali U-19 team. Under his coaching, Sudurpaschim Royals reached the finals of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) consecutively.
Tamata was a player when Nepal first played international cricket in Malaysia in 1996. He is a rare player from Nepal to qualify for international competitions in two games. Tamata represented the hockey team when Nepal competed in the 7th South Asian Games in the then Madras in 1995.
