Sixteen schools are set to compete in the seventh edition of the Koshi Province Inter-School DIG Cup Football Tournament. The tournament, which will be held from 20 to 24 December after 16 years, will feature 16 schools from Koshi Province, the organizer Nepal Police School Dharan informed in a press conference on Tuesday.
Sports coordinator Sagar Lama Karki said that the competition, which has not been held for the past 16 years, has been resumed this time. Due to various reasons, the competition could not be held after the sixth edition in 2066 BS.
The competition was started in 2058 BS with the aim of promoting sports from the school level and producing national players. The organizers have stated that students of the U-17 and U-18 age groups up to grade 10 will be able to play in the competition to be held at the playground of the Nepal Police Provincial Office, Dharan. However, student players who have participated in any ANFA league will not be able to participate in the competition, Karki said.
The winner of the competition will receive a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 81,05 and the runner-up will receive Rs 41,05. The best in each discipline will be awarded Rs 2,05 each and the organizers said that the winning player will also be provided with a 50 percent scholarship to study in grade 11.
