Music and sports met on the same stage at the Pokhara Stadium on Friday evening, when legendary band Nepathya, organized by the Nepal Premier League (NPL) franchise team Pokhara Avengers, rocked the stadium.
The concert, organized with the slogan ‘Nepathya for Cricket’, was attended by 10,000 spectators. The stadium was filled with 7,800 jerseys sold and 2,200 guests. Nepathya’s Amrit Gurung started the program with the song ‘Ho..Rama Rama’ and sang one famous song after another. The audience supported the songs ‘Yo Zindagani’, ‘Talko Pani’, ‘Resham’, ‘Lampate Surati’, ‘Main Nache Chhamchhami’ and others by lighting up their mobile phones.
From the stage, Amrit wished Pokhara Avengers a victory in the NPL and urged the audience to ‘love cricket like music’. Recalling the history of Pokhara Stadium, he said, ‘The stadium of 40 years ago and the Pokhara of today are very different. Once upon a time, we dreamed of coming to play here, today the new generation of Pokhara has fulfilled that dream.’ After singing a dozen songs, he concluded his performance with ‘Rato Ra Chandra Surya’. He said, ‘Cricket is now becoming our national identity. We all have to contribute our rhythm, voice and support in this journey.’
The plan was to allow the audience to enter the concert without having to purchase tickets, but by purchasing a Pokhara Avengers jersey. The first 1,000 jerseys were sold in 13 hours, and the rest of the jerseys were completely ‘sold out’ on Thursday itself.
According to Pokhara Avengers President Subodh Tripathi, the aim of the concert was to bring music and sports on one stage and increase interest in cricket in Gandaki. ‘Sports like football and volleyball are popular in Gandaki, but now we have collaborated with Nepathya to send the message that cricket can also become an identity here,’ he said.
According to him, the money raised from the concert will be distributed to community schools in Gandaki. The second edition of the NPL is starting on Mangsir 1. Earlier, Pokhara Avengers had promoted cricket in various districts of Gandaki through a ‘Trophy Tour’. Currently, the team players are training in India. They chose the Indian ground to practice under floodlights.
