APF Football Club has scored a thrilling victory in the final semi-final of the LVD Jhapa Women's Gold Cup, which is being held at the Dudhe Stadium in Shivasatakshi, Jhapa.
APF defeated Tribhuvan Army Football Club 4-2 in a tiebreaker to secure a departmental clash with Nepal Police Club in the final.
Both teams were aggressive from the start of the match. From the initial minutes, both Army and APF constantly put pressure on each other's goalposts. In the 26th minute, APF's Saru Limbu shot from outside the box but the ball went wide of the post. Then, in the 29th minute, Army's forward Bimala Chaudhary headed a cross from Army's Tulsa Bohora over the goalpost.
In the 39th minute, APF captain Anita Basnet's corner kick was blocked by Army defender Rashmikumari Ghising. A minute later, Army launched a counterattack but Tulsa Bohora's one-on-one opportunity with Anjana Rana Magar failed. The game continued at an even pace in the second half. In the 58th minute, Rashmikumari Ghising's shot, which eluded two defenders, was saved by Army goalkeeper Kopila Khadka.
However, Army managed to take the lead in the 63rd minute. Chandra Bhandari scored an easy goal after defender Nisha Thokar and goalkeeper Anjana Rana broke down. In the 81st minute, Rashmikumari Ghising's header missed the goalpost on a cross from APF captain Anita Basnet. However, the game took a dramatic turn in injury time. After Army's Bimala Chaudhary committed a handball, APF got a free kick from about 25 yards away. Captain Anita's excellent free kick goal tied the game 1-1.
After the regulation time ended in a draw, the game was decided by a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, APF's Sabita Rana, Anita Basnet, Nisha Thokar and Rashmikumari Ghising scored goals, while Renuka Hamal's shot was saved by Army goalkeeper Kopila Khadka. Only Army's Bimala Bik and Anita Lamjel could score goals, while Bimala Chaudhary and Sushmita Chaudhary's shots were saved by APF's Anjana Rana Magar. APF goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar, who performed exceptionally, was declared the player of the match. She received Rs 15,000 and a trophy.
Now APF will play the final against Nepal Police Club for the title. This clash between the two departmental teams is expected to make the final of the Jhapa Women's Gold Cup more exciting.
The winning team of the competition will receive Rs 1 million 10 thousand in cash, while the runner-up will receive Rs 5 million. The best player will be awarded Rs 150,000 and the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward, coach, emerging player and top scorer will be awarded Rs 25,000.
The final match of the tournament will be held on Monday, Kartik 24.
