Resunga Municipality Mayor Khildhwaj Panthi said that after repeated initiatives, the beautification work of Chidichaur Playground has progressed.
The construction work of the abandoned Chidichaur playground has resumed. The playground had been abandoned when the work was stopped due to the negligence of the construction contractor.
The Chidichaur playground, which is popular for football, cricket and volleyball, has become ugly after the work was stopped midway. The playground had become a lake of water by Jestha/Asar. Due to the fear of children drowning and losing their lives, temporary drains were made to drain the water in the playground.
Resunga Municipality had secured a budget from the Lumbini Provincial Government as a multi-year contract to make the Chidichaur playground manageable by planting trees. Due to the problem of a water source bursting in the middle of the playground, the current contract includes a plan to manage the water underground and then level it with fertile soil and plant trees.
Ramechhap Construction Kathmandu was given the responsibility of constructing the Chidichaur playground at a cost of Rs 10 million through the Social Development Division Office of the Lumbini Provincial Government, Palpa, in the last week of last Baisakh.
The deadline for completion of the construction is Asad 2083, but Anjali Thapa, an engineer at the Social Development Division Office, Palpa, said that she was confident that the work would be completed within the time frame. Leela Bahadur Basnet, director of the construction company Ramechhap Construction Kathmandu, had stopped the work citing various excuses.
Resunga Municipality Chief Khildhwaj Panthi said that the beautification work of Chidichaur Playground has progressed after repeated initiatives. 'The work was stopped due to harassment by the construction businessmen in the meantime,' he said. 'Despite repeated requests, the work did not work. We reached Kathmandu and requested it. After a lot of hard work, the work has started a few days ago.' He also said that if there are any problems, he will facilitate them, but the work cannot be left behind after taking charge. 'The work has started now,' he said. 'Now we are confident that the work will be completed on time.'
