Natarajan Sah has become an ‘iconic player’ for Kathmandu Gorkhaz. Natarajan, a fast bowler with a wide left hand, emerged as the standout performer in the ‘talent hunt’ conducted by Gorkhaz for the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Wednesday.
Nearly 1,000 youngsters showcased their skills at the ‘Talent Hunt’ held at the One Day Cricket Academy in Mulpani. The training team led by Kathmandu Gorkhaz coach Basant Shahi Thakuri selected 60 players in the second phase.
Natarajan, a youth trained at the Kathmandu Cricket Training Center, was selected as the best in the selection. Coach Shahi, double SAG gold medalist and Kathmandu Gorkhaz brand ambassador Mandekaji Shrestha, and Bagmati Province Cricket Association technical chief Arun Satyal presented him with a Gorkhaz jersey and declared him an ‘iconic player’. Natarajan will now play for Kathmandu Gorkhaz in the NPL. He will receive a salary of Rs 100,000.
Gorkhaz had selected 17 players, including Natarajan, from the 60 players in the second phase. Apart from the iconic, 5 other players have been placed in Gorkhaz’s development team. Atharva Poudel, Shardul Bhatta, Bipin Neupane, Sonu Devkota and Ringjin Lama have been selected for development. They will receive Rs 25,000 each. Coach Shahi said that they will train with the Gorkhaz team throughout the NPL. The players selected for development were honored by Kathmandu Gorkhaz's brand ambassador, national footballer Bikesh Kuthu, volleyball player Poonam Chand, secretary of the Hoteliers Association Anish Baniya, and ODI Cricket Academy operator Purushottam Jha.
Gorkhaz has formed a talent hunt 11 team to carry out other cricket activities. Chandrakant Poudel, Sarthak Dhital, Adarsh Bhandari, Sagar Ghimire, Ganesh Gautam, Saurabh Sakhakrami, Divas Chhetri, Nitesh Kumar, Rakesh Chaurasia, Divas Kunwar and Yugant Karki have been selected in this team.
Earlier, Nepal Cricket Association Secretary Paras Khadka bowled, Kathmandu Gorkhaz Executive Director Anubhav Sirohiya batted and Chief Executive Officer Suraj Singh Thakuri bowled, starting the talent hunt.
Secretary Khadka said that with 12 days left, preparations for the NPL are going on at a rapid pace and it will strengthen Nepali cricket. CAN member Sudeep Sharma, Bhaktapur District Cricket Association President and former national player Manish Raj Pandey, Lalitpur District Cricket Association President Shekhar Shrestha and others said that the NPL is providing great opportunities to players.
