The second Nepalgunj National Swimming Championship 2025 has begun in Nepalgunj from Friday.

The competition organized by Nepalgunj Swimming Club was inaugurated by Lumbini Province Government's Youth and Sports Minister Santosh Kumar Pandey. At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Pandey said that Lumbini Province has immense potential in the sports sector and that the provincial government is committed to the development of sports and expansion of infrastructure.

In the inaugural match, Rajbin Jirel of Sagarmatha Swimming Club Lalitpur won the first place in the 50-meter backstroke under-8 boys event, while Yubhan Shrestha of Adarsh ​​Secondary School Nepalgunj came second and Bishnu Parajuli of Koshi Province came third, said club president Keshav Raj Neupane.

Similarly, in the 25-meter freestyle under-8 boys, Rajbin Jirel of Sagarmatha Club again came first, Dipson Pun Magar of Shikha Academy Kohalpur came second and Yubhan Shrestha of Adarsh ​​Secondary School came third.

In the Under-8 Girls' Group, Sagarmatha Club's Chhiyana Maharjan won the gold in the 25-meter freestyle, while Adarsh ​​Mavi's Samriddhi Neupane and Shikha Academy's Shreeja Regmi finished second and third respectively. Chhiyana Maharjan also won the first place in the 25-meter backstroke. Minister Pandey distributed medals and certificates to the winning players.

More than 150 players from all over the country have participated in the competition. The competition is being conducted in 56 different events including Under-8, 10, 12, 14, 17 and open age groups. Under-8 players will compete in 25 meters, Under-10 players in 50 meters, and Under-12 and 14 players in 50 and 100 meters. Open group competitions will be held in 200 and 400 meters.
