The Ministry of Youth and Sports held a discussion on Thursday regarding the organization of the Martyrs' Memorial League 'A' Division, which has been going on for almost three years. The meeting came at a time when the ministry is expressing the view that such a discussion is unnecessary for organizing the league.
The discussion began after Ballu Gupta was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports. The meeting was attended by officials from the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and representatives from the ‘A’ Division clubs. National Sports Council Member-Secretary Tanklal Ghising was also present.
On that occasion, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai said that government support was necessary to run the league. He also claimed that it was difficult to find sponsors for the league and said that the money coming from FIFA and AFC could not be used to organize the league directly.
National football team captain Kiran Chemjong said that Thursday’s discussion was very meaningful, positive and hopeful. He wrote on social media, ‘The open discussion between the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the All Nepal Football Association and the A-Division clubs has clearly shown everyone’s responsibility, commitment and understanding towards the current situation and future of Nepali football.’
