Rohit becomes first Nepali to score two centuries in ODIs

Rohit Poudel has become the first Nepali player to score two centuries in One Day Internationals. Rohit achieved this feat by scoring 109 runs against the UAE in the ongoing World Cup League 2 cricket match in Dubai on Thursday.

 

Nepal has set a target of 234 runs for the UAE with Rohit's effort. Nepal, who won the toss and elected to bat, were all out for 233 runs after playing the full 50 overs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. 

Earlier, Paras Khadka, Kushal Bhurtel, Anil Kumar Sah, Asif Sheikh, Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airi and Bhim Sarki had scored centuries in ODIs along with Rohit. In 2019, when the last ODI was played at this ground, captain Paras scored a century, which was also the first century in ODIs by a Nepali player.

Rohit scored 126 runs against Papua New Guinea in 2022, which is the highest score by a Nepali player in ODIs. Rohit scored his first century in ODIs as captain. 

Rohit had previously been stopped on a score of ninety twice. In 2022, he scored an unbeaten 95 against Scotland in Kirtipur. Similarly, last year, he scored 96 against the United States in Dallas and was dismissed on the last ball of the innings. Apart from Rohit, Bhurtel 7, Asif Sheikh 35, Bhim Sarki 3, Arif Sheikh 27, Dipendra Singh Airi 23, Sompal Kami 6, Karan KC 13 were dismissed from Nepal in Thursday's match. Gulshan Jha could not open his account.
