Nepali cricket's successful batsman Sharad Veshwakar is set to retire from international cricket. Sharad will captain Nepal in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes to be held in Hong Kong from November 7 to 9, which will be his last tournament in international cricket, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) said on Sunday.

Sharad started his playing career in the U-15 Asia Cup held in the UAE in 2002. He is a member of the first first-class recognized three-day match, first one-day international and first Twenty20 International team played by Nepal.

He made his debut for the Nepali national team in 2004 in his native UAE. Sharad made a brilliant debut by scoring an unbeaten half-century in the second innings of the first-class recognized Intercontinental Cup tri-nation tournament against the UAE in Sharjah. Sharad is a key player in Nepal's journey to the One-Day International from the World Cricket League Division 5.

Sharad is especially remembered for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifiers held in the UAE in 2013, where he played the role of an excellent finisher and led Nepal to the Twenty20 World Cup for the first time. Nepal reached the World Cup after he scored the winning run in the match against Hong Kong. The match played against Hong Kong in the World Cup was Nepal's first Twenty20 International. Sharad was the key player of this team.

Similarly, the match played against the Netherlands in Amsterdam in 2018 was Nepal's first in an ODI. Sharad is also a member of this Nepali team. But Sharad last played an ODI in 2021 and a T20I in 2022.

Last season, 37-year-old Sharad played Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket for Chitwan Rhinos. He was unbeaten in all four matches while batting. But no one bid for him in this mini auction.

Under Sharad's captaincy, Sandeep Jora, Adil Alam Ansari, Lokesh Bam, Bashir Ahmed, Rashid Khan, Rupesh Singh will play for Nepal in the Super Sixes in Hong Kong.
