The Twenty-20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifier Super Six match between Nepal and Oman on Wednesday will determine a decision, whoever wins this match will reach the Twenty-20 World Cup. After winning the first two games of the Super Six as the group winners, Oman and Nepal have reached such a strong position that the match between these two on Wednesday evening will get one team from this region to reach the World Cup.
Nepal got a sensational victory over UAE by 1 run and Qatar by 5 runs in the Super Six. The narrower the victory, the closer Nepal is to the World Cup.
9 nations have been divided into three groups in the tournament being held in Muscat, Oman. The top two teams from the three groups advance to the Super Six. The top three teams from the six Super Six teams will advance to the Twenty20 World Cup in February-March. The World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Oman and Nepal are in a strong position in the first two positions with 6 points. In November 2023, these two teams reached the finals of the ICC Twenty-20 Men's Asia Qualifier held in Kathmandu and managed to book tickets for the World Cup. The final was incredible.
The final in Kirtipur was a tie. After Gulshan Jha scored 54 off 25 balls and Rohit Paudel scored 54 off 37 balls, Nepal scored 184-6. Even though Nepal took the last 3 wickets in Oman's innings, Oman added 7 runs to make the score 184 runs, and the decision reached the super over. Even though Oman scored 21 runs in the super over, Nepal scored only 10 runs and handed over the title.
The winner of Wednesday's match at the All Emirates Cricket Ground will be sure to win the title. Nepal is at stake to end its long drought in Twenty20. After losing the first two matches of the Super Six, contenders UAE are sure to miss at least one team from Oman and Nepal in the race for the top spot. Due to the loss to Nepal and Oman, the UAE has reached the position of not being able to qualify for the World Cup for the second time in a row. Even if they win the remaining two matches, UAE may not be safe.
Nepal is on the verge of reaching the Twenty-20 World Cup for the second time in a row. The match between Nepal and Oman will start at 8.45 pm. If they fail to defeat Samoa in the 4.15 pm match, the UAE will be out of the qualifying race.
In the last 5 matches with Oman, Nepal has won 4 other matches except that Super Over loss. Oman showed this performance even with a new team after saying goodbye to their old players last year . On the other hand, Nepal has been showing consistent performance especially in Stuart Law training from Australia.
Before reaching Oman, Nepal won the Twenty20 international series against West Indies in UAE by 2-1 . After stopping Oman by a score of 110-9 in the practice match before the Twenty20 World Cup qualifiers, Nepal scored 114 runs in 17 overs on Asif Sheikh's 61 runs.
However, the Nepali team's batting in the last 10 overs and bowling in the first 10 overs has gone out of control. After scoring 60 runs in the first 10 overs against Qatar, Nepal is missing out on making a score above 150 due to the lack of pace especially from Kushal Malla, Sandeep Zora and Adil Alam Ansari in the middle order. Even in the previous games, Nepal's batting performance has not been consistent.
Qatar added 79 runs in 10 overs in their batting and forced Nepal's bowling to think. Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav are struggling to match their bowling rhythm .
