Nepal will face Kuwait when the ICC Twenty-20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifier starts in Oman on Wednesday. The top 3 teams of this tournament with 9 participating nations will qualify for the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in February-March. The World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka.

Japan is the other team of 'B' which includes Nepal and Kuwait. Malaysia, Qatar, UAE are in Group 'A' and Oman, Papua New Guinea and Samoa are in Group 'C'. The top 2 teams from the group will advance to the Super Six. Teams from the same group do not have to compete against each other in the Super Six.

Apart from that, after playing with the top four teams, the top three teams will get a place in the Twenty20 World Cup. From this time, Asia and East Asia Pacific region have been made one. As a result, Japan, Samoa and Papua New Guinea have come to play with teams from the Asia region. On the first day, along with Nepal and Kuwait, there will be competition between Oman and Samoa and Qatar and UAE.

Nepal is seen as a contender for the competition. However, Kuwait is the same team against whom Nepal lost by 3 runs in the final of the four-nation competition against Hong Kong in April. Batting first, Kuwait scored 174 runs for the loss of 4 wickets on a small field in Hong Kong. Bashir Ahmed and Nandan Yadav's brave innings  Despite this, Nepal was restricted to 171 runs in 19.3 overs. In the round robin match of the same tournament, Nepal won comfortably by 6 wickets over Kuwait.

Since then, there has been a big change in the Nepalese team. Australian Stuart Law is in charge of training the team. In his training, Nepal has been performing highly. As Nepal's performance in World Cup League 2 continued to weaken, ODI cricket was in crisis. However, under Stewart's training, Nepal won 3 out of 4 games in League 2 with the Netherlands in Dundee, Scotland. Soon after, in the triangular twenty-20 series in Glasgow, the strong team of the associate region defeated the Netherlands and Scotland.

Nepal also defeated the West Indies, who came without 4-5 key players in Shar Jahan, UAE, by 2-1 in a series of three Twenty20 matches. Therefore, Nepal is sure to arrive in Muscat with high morale. Nepal defeated Oman by 6 wickets in the first practice match and Qatar by 16 runs in the second match. Against Qatar, opener Kushal Bhurtel scored a half-century in his own style, which was a positive aspect for the Nepalese team.

In the series with the West Indies, despite being selected as the player of the series for his leg spin bowling and fielding, Bhurtel's bat was not moving well. Asif scored a half-century in the warm-up match against Oman. Since Kushal Malla is also batting well in his comeback, the batting of the Nepali team has become stronger.

Kuwait also scored a 34-run victory over Qatar in their only practice match in Oman. In that sequence, the team scored 184 runs. Clint Anto scored 63 runs off 27 balls and Mit Bhavsar scored 65 runs off 48 balls. This also shows that Kuwait's batting is suitable for Twenty20 structure. Malaysia and Kuwait passed the qualifying stage from regional selection 'A' in the Asia region.

However, after visiting Hong Kong, Kuwait has not played much Twenty20 cricket. While going to Oman and playing two Twenty20 international matches against Oman, Kuwait was defeated by the same 5 wickets in both matches. In this situation, experience will be very important for Nepal.

After Kuwait, Nepal will play against Japan on Friday. The match between Kuwait and Japan will be played on Thursday. Nepal has no reason to remember Oman's last visit. After winning all three group stage matches in the global qualifiers held in Oman in 2022, they failed to reach the Twenty20 World Cup after losing to UAE in the semi-finals.
