Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in the opening match of the U-17 SAFF Championship on Monday.

Sameer Kumar scored the first goal for Nepal in the 52nd minute of the match at the race course ground in Colombo. He added the second goal in the injury time of the second half.

Pratish Thapa Magar's long cross was headed by an unmarked Sameer. At the end of the first half, Sameer missed the opportunity to score a certain goal on two occasions. Sri Lanka lost Mohammad Imaf to a double yellow card in the 27th minute.

After this victory, Nepal has three points in Group 'A' and the possibility of entering the semi-finals has become strong. Defeated Sri Lanka remained with zero points. Now in the next match of the group, they will face Bangladesh on Thursday. There are only three teams in the group.
