Kathmandu Gorkhaz has appointed 5 top players of Nepali sports as its 'Goodwill Ambassadors'. According to Gorkhaz, players from different sports have been made ambassadors for the upcoming second edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket with the aim of inspiring the youth.
Gorkhaz has appointed Karate's Mandekaji Shrestha, Football's Vikesh Kuthu, Athletics' Santoshi Shrestha, Volleyball's Poonam Chand and Taekwondo's Sita Tamang as 'Goodwill Ambassadors'. Gorkhaz Executive Director Anubhav Swaar Sirohia and Chief Executive Officer Suraj Singh Thakuri welcomed the 'Goodwill Ambassadors'. Apart from Punam, four players were present. Poonam was in Pokhara for the franchise volleyball league.
Chief Executive Officer Thakuri said that since sports other than cricket are needed to inspire the youth in sports, players from different sports have been included in their team as 'Goodwill Ambassadors'. He informed that since Kathmandu is a team from Gorkhaj Valley, the players were selected accordingly. The second edition of
NPL is being organized from November 17 to December 13. Under the captaincy of Karan KC, Gorkhaz has Bhim Sarki, Shahab Alam, Adil Alam Ansari, Rashid Khan, Dipesh Kadel, Santosh Yadav, Akash Tripathi, Prateek Shrestha, Tul Bahadur Thapa, Uttam Thapamargar.
Mandekaji won a double gold medal in the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019. He is currently the Kata coach of the Nepali National Karate Team. Vikesh is the goalkeeper of the Nepali national football team since 2012. Currently playing for Tribhuvan Army Football Club, Vikesh has played for Saraswati, Jawalakhel Youth and Madhyapur Youth Association. Vikesh won the title from Kathmandu Razors in the first edition of Nepal Super League.
Santoshi also won gold in the 10,000 meters race of the 13th South Asian Games. She is the first Nepalese female athlete to win gold in athletics at the South Asian Games. . Santoshi played in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Poonam of
volleyball is a member of the national volleyball team since 2019. Poonam of Nepal Police Club is now affiliated with Pokhara Ninjas for the Everest Women's Volleyball League. The volleyball league will start on August 20 in Pokhara.
Sita won the gold medal in the Embassy Open Taekwondo Championship held in South Korea last month. She won gold medals in the sixth, seventh and ninth national games. Sita has also acted in Out Law and Danbhi.
