Nepal got off to a bad start in the SAFF U-17 Women's Championship on Wednesday. India defeated Nepal 7-0 in the first match of the tournament at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Avista Basnet, Nira Chanu and Anushka Kumari scored two goals each in India's victory. Also, Julan Nongmaithim scored a goal. India was leading by five goals in the first half. This defeat has weakened the position of Nepal in the tournament which started on the basis of

round robin . A total of four teams are participating in the competition. The other participating teams are hosts Bhutan and Bangladesh.
