After Minister Choudhary said that they are engaged in the homework of forming NOC ad hoc committee, the controversy is seen to intensify.
What you should know
The Olympic dispute in Nepali sports will not get an immediate solution. Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary's announcement that an ad hoc committee of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) will be formed does not seem to end the Olympic controversy.
In the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Friday, Minister Chowdhury said that an ad hoc committee will be formed soon as the Olympic Committee led by Jeevan Ram Shrestha is illegal.
After discussion with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Minister Choudhary informed that the Olympic Committee has reached the conclusion of forming an ad hoc committee. It is said that this week, from the sports minister to the secretary, officials of the National Sports Council and officials of 22 different sports associations met the Prime Minister and discussed issues including the Olympic dispute and participation in the 10th National Games.
Minister Chowdhury claimed that since he received instructions from the Prime Minister to form an ad-hoc committee to resolve the Olympic dispute, an ad-hoc committee will be formed with the involvement of 22 of the 27 associations involved in the Olympics.
The minister claimed that he was in favor of the formation of 22 association ad hoc committees for fencing, triathlon, hockey, football, volleyball, taekwondo, boxing, athletics, gymnastics, shooting, wrestling, kabaddi, basketball, horse riding, table tennis, handball, swimming, wushu, badminton, cycling, weightlifting and tennis registered in the National Sports Council. He said that the associations have written to the ministry for that.
After the election of NOC held last December, there has been a bitter situation between the three main bodies of Nepali sports (Ministry, Rakhep and NOC). The government has not given legitimacy to the election. The Ministry of Sports and the Council have declared NOC's actions as illegal and locked the NOC headquarters in Satdobato.
Jeevanram Shrestha was elected as the president for the third term after the amendment of the constitution of NOC. According to the Sports Development Act 2077, the council had written a letter to stop the general meeting saying that it is not possible to amend the statute to extend the term, and the court also gave an interim order to stop the session. But NOC completed the election. The officials of the association affiliated to the Olympics were divided by the president on one side and the general secretary on the other.
The newly elected Shrestha claims that he should be able to work legally as he is recognized by the IOC. The NOC said that 30 games had been registered by the deadline of June 30 for the Asian Games to be held next year in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, and the youth and
Sports Ministry also claimed to have registered 31 games. But IOC has recognized the registration of NOC.
The date of the tenth national will be set soon
The date of the 10th National Games that has been decided in Karnali province will be decided soon. Minister Chaudhary said that the 10th National Games, which were repeatedly postponed due to the fact that the construction of physical infrastructure was not completed last year, will be held this year anyway.
He informed that studies and discussions are being conducted to fix the date at a favorable time this season and for that the team will go to Karnali province. After that, the minister said that he would fix the date and start the work as soon as possible. He made it clear that since the district level selection and state level selection have to be made, the date will be set so that the tenth national sports will not be held.
NPL grand
Minister Choudhary has said that there is no doubt that franchise cricket will be the second edition of NPL. He said that there is no truth in the rumors about the second edition. Emphasizing that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council to organize the competition in full compliance with the Sports Act, the Financial Act and the Procurement Act, Minister Choudhary said that the matter arising from the financial irregularities of the first edition will be investigated. He says that the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has not provided the necessary documents related to the NPL.
Chowdhury also said that in the first edition, a complaint was filed with the authority about financial irregularities and an investigation committee has been formed based on that. The Ministry is discussing whether to give the responsibility of the investigation to the authority or to form a high-level investigation committee. The law will proceed, but the second edition will not stop. I give instructions to organize it in a grand and decent manner,” he said.
The scope of sports is large
Chaudhary discussed that sports are the largest and richest in terms of scope. He said, "Even though sports seems small compared to other fields, its scope is wide and big." In terms of assets, there are infrastructures under the National Sports Council in 77 districts.'
Sports Ministry aims to manage sports in a transparent manner as the income from land and buildings including swimming pools, covered halls, and stadiums owned by Rakhep will make sports sustainable and independent.
Minister Chowdhury claimed that 74.42 percent financial progress was achieved by spending 386 million 98 thousand out of 5188835 thousand allocated for capital in the financial year. Minister Choudhary has included in his upcoming program that the construction of a football stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators in Bhaktapur's Surya Vinayak has been advanced and land acquisition in Kathmandu Valley for the construction of an international volleyball covered hall. He said that preparations are being made to organize the Nepal Sports Investment Summit 2025 in the capital.
Apart from that, during his one-year tenure, Minister Choudhary has covered the issues of medals won by players in international competitions and 83 players awarded in eight sports.
On policy and legal matters, the amendment bill of the National Sports Development Act 2077 has been registered in the Parliament and the draft of the Procedures of the Nepal Sports Science Academy 2082 has been prepared, the ministry said. Minister Chowdhury informed that besides establishing the office of National Anti-Doping Agency Nepal, the work of surveying for the organizational structure and management of the ministry, maintenance and anti-doping is going on.
