Arsenal's new striker Victor Gyokeres was unveiled in Singapore on Sunday. Gyokeres was introduced to the supporters during Arsenal's 3–2 win over Premier League rivals Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly.
Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Portuguese side Sporting for £64m on Saturday. He waved to supporters before the start of the match against Newcastle in Singapore. The supporters also greeted him with his 'trademark' goal-scoring style.
Gyokeres, 27, has not been able to train with Arsenal. He reached the ground directly from the airport. "We are very happy that Victor has joined our team, it took a long time to get him here," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.
Arsenal will play London rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong on Thursday and Gyokeres is likely to play in the game. The Swedish striker has not trained with the team since the end of May. From Sporting, he scored 97 goals in 112 games and provided passes for 26 goals.
Arteta has been busy bringing in new players this season. Arsenal have already brought Martin Zubimendi, Kristian Norgaard, goalkeeper Kepa Ajibalaga and winger Noni Maduike to London, while the team is also eyeing Spanish club Valencia's centre-back Christian Mosquera. If that happens, Arsenal will spend 210 million pounds on new players, which is the most spent by the Gunners since Arteta arrived.
Arsenal have not won a title since winning the FA Cup in 2020. After finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for the last two seasons, Arsenal have been on the hunt for a main striker and the arrival of Gyokeres has Gunners supporters most excited. Gyokeres has previous experience playing in England with Brighton and Coventry.
Arsenal conceded 22 goals last season compared to 2023-24. This also meant Arteta was losing faith in Kai Havertz and Jesus. Havertz managed just 9 goals in the Premier League last season and was 26th in the Premier League top scorers list. Arsenal have been without a main striker since the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2022.
Diaz to go to Bayern
Bayern Munich has increased the amount for Liverpool forward Luis Diaz. The Bundesliga side made a £58.6 million bid for Colombia international Diaz earlier this month, but that was rejected by Liverpool.
But now Barron has made an offer to bring in Diaz with more money than that. Bayern made an offer to Liverpool with his contract amounting to £65.5 million. Diaz was ruled out of Saturday's pre-season friendly against AC Milan in Hong Kong following transfer concerns. Liverpool lost the game 4-2.
"There have been various speculations about him lately, but I don't want to go there," Liverpool manager Arne Slott said after the match with AC Milan, "He is training well." But we have decided not to play him now. He arrived in Japan on Sunday with the Liverpool team. It is said that he will complete his relocation process by returning to Europe within the next 24 hours.
Liverpool have already brought in Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ikiteke and the team are still hoping to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle. Diaz joined Anfield from Porto for £37m in January 2022 and was a key player in Liverpool's Premier League triumph last season.
