Germany defeated France 6-5 in the penalty shootout on Saturday to book their place in the semi-finals of the Women's Euro 2025. A tiebreaker was needed after the extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.

Germany was limited to 10 players for most of the game.

The hero of the German victory was Anna Katrin Berger. He saved penalties from Mle Mazri and Elise Sombath to send his team into the last four. Now at that stage he will face Spain. The German's match against the world champions will take place in Zurich on Wednesday.

Germany has not yet been defeated by France in a major women's football tournament and, maintaining this streak, came back from a one-goal deficit within the first 15 minutes. By that time, Germany was limited to 10 players. After the

game, Berger said, 'I want the game to be over in 90 minutes. The entire team played with great effort in the 120 minute match. But I have only made some contribution. So the credit for this victory goes to the team, not to me, but the game was decided on a penalty.' Szoke Nusken initially missed a penalty for Germany, but later scored an equalizer himself to put Germany back in the game. France has been stopped in the quarter-finals in eight of the last 10 editions of the Euro.

What I don't think is that our players did not try their best. What everyone should understand is that Germany is the third ranked team in FIFA ranking. Germany sat back and played defensively. It was not easy to break it. "Germany put us in a difficult position until the end," said French coach Laurent Bonaday.

Ahead of the quarter-finals, Germany lost defender Gigli Gwan to injury and Carlot Vamsara to suspension. Star player Leah Salar was initially benched. On top of that, after Hendrich received a red card in the 13th minute, Germany was under pressure at the beginning, but if this team did not lose, it put France under pressure.
