Kshitij Bhandari has won the open title of 'Rajendra KC Smriti Himalayan 100 X Two Blitz Chess Tournament' held on Saturday, making a new record in Nepali chess.
247 players participated in the one-day tournament organized by Himalayan Chess Academy at Woganvilla Hall in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu, which is the largest participation in Nepali Blitz Chess history. According to the president of
academy, Monalisha Khambu, the first edition 'Himalayan 100' held last year on the occasion of FIDE's 100th anniversary has been listed in the Guinness World Records. This time, the second edition of the same campaign has been organized as 'Rajendra KC Smriti Himalayan 100 X Two'. The open side of the
competition Fidemaster (FM) Kshitij Bhandari beat CM Purushottam Silwal to win the cash prize of Rs 10,000. He scored 9.5 points.
Silwal, who came second, received 7 thousand rupees with 9 marks. Muhan Narsingh Shrestha who scored 8.5 points came third and received 5 thousand rupees.
Sandesh Shrestha, Rupesh Jaiswal, Premkrishna Maharjan, Risan Thapa, Suroj Maharjan, Prem Khadka and Purushottam Chaulagain were the other players who made it to the top 10 positions. All of them got a prize of 1000 rupees each. Players from 6 years to 84 years participated in the competition held in
19 categories. Nayuma Magar, Nihana Shrestha, Pragya Pant, Satwikman Tuladhar, Praveer KC, Sitaram Agarwal and 32 other players received the prize in the competition with a total prize of Rs 67,000.
Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakashman Singh inaugurated the competition. Shanta Adhikari, Member of Parliament of Bagmati Province, Deepen Rai, Senior Vice President of Nepal Intelligence Federation, Saroj Kumar Mulmi, President of Nepal Billiard Snooker and Pool Association, Monalisha Khambu, founder of Himalayan Chess Academy distributed the prizes.
